Tips of materials:

This page does not have the purpose to dictate to norms or rules for the use of materials for the painting to the oil, watercolor or crayon, but to present a pigment suggestion, brushes, suport, that I use in my work and that I consider adequate.

                                                           1. MATERIAL FOR OIL OVER CANVAS PAINTING

    PAINTS >> BASIC COLOURS

Yellow Red Lemon French Cadmiun Red
Yellow Clearly Red Yellow Chinese
Dark Cadmium Alizarim Crimson
Yellow  Ochre Cobalt Blue
Indian Yellow Ultramarine Blue
Yellow of Blue Naples Prussian Blue
Orange Green Vessie (Sap Green)
Burnt Sienna Green English Land
Burnt Umber White of Titanium

 >  I would not like to suggest a brand or other, there good quality oil paints, owing nothing to the English, Dutch, German, Japanese, American. It is important to mention that these manufacturers have, in general, two lines of products one for amateurs and the other one for professionals. Usually I alternate between the two lines, also why the so-called amateur line also presents a resonable pigmentation quality.

Brushes and Other Materials

* A number of 6 or 8 brushes, of synthetic bristle and flate ended.

* The ideal is to purchase brushes of alternate numbers: #  4, 6, 8, 10

* Some round brushes, 2 or 3 of synthetic bristle and of low number, preferably some brushes usually know as fillets

* In that if it relates to the brushes, good national marks exist, also the mattered ones, are to the choice of each one are very important  that the brushes have firm bristles, to get preciosion in the act to paint.

>> Other basic and necessary materials:

  • Double water pan for placing of kerosene (for brushes cleaning)

  • The oil mixture of linseed oil and turpentine (to dilute some paints). The proportion of this mixture varies, but I use a proportion of 2 to 1, or for every two parts of oil, one of turpentine.

  • A wooden pallette for paints (ordered by colors).

  • A piece of cloth for cleaning

  • Charcoal for sketching

>>  Important note: the screen with caution must be chosen, will have to be of fabric of good quality, treated and waterproofed or correct form, therefore it the screen to dry fast, runs the risk of the finished painting to be dull.

         2. MATERIAL PAINT IN WATERCOLOURS

                       PAINTS  >> BASIC COLOURS

Lemon Yellow Carmine
Cadmiun Yellow Light Alizarim Crimson
CadmiunYellow Deep Cobalt Blue
Yellow Ochre Ultramarine Blue
Indian Yellow Prussian Blue
Raw Sienna Green Vessie (Sap Green)
Cad. Orange Olive Green
Burnt Sienna Prussian Green
Burnt Umber Payne´s Gray
Sépia

* Watercolors must be used the mattered one (English, German, Italian, etc.)

* I only use the paints in tubes, because I think I can get more fluidity in my work. But the same colors are availabre in tablets,  of the same manufacturers and of equal quality. The separation amateur and professionals is also present at the main manufacturers and at watercolor painting it is important that you use the professionals line.

Brushes and Others Materials

* The brushes must be soft, being the ideal the use of 4 or 6 units with flat, synthetic bristles. Some round ones are needed, from  4 to 6 units also, keeping up with the suggestion of numbering #   2, 4, 6.

* A low number brush and a  fillets one is also needed.

            Other materials:

  • A plastic or similar material palette, for placing the paints.

  • Pencil for a fast sketch.

  • Soft cloth for cleanning the brushes and drying out excess water.

  • A bowl for the water. The water to be used must rather be filtered or distilled, so that the paper is not subjetc  to mold.

  • Ribbon crepe, to fix the paper in the support (wood or plastic)

  • Last the paper, or extreme importance, because it must have a considerable weight, 280 or 300 grams, minimun to be appropriate for watercolor use solely and rather be constitued of cotton or mixed fibers. The texture of this paper can vary, being falt, wrinkled punched. Unfortunately due to its cost, recommend the important dones. The domestic ones, I use only tests.

  > The colours that I related are of my preference, but nothing it hinders watercolours artist add color of its personal taste, the same happening with brushes that better if adapte to its style. It is very important to make tests of color, brushes, to use the material best for a finished workmanship.  Should you have any doubts, please contact:  seabrastudio@hotmail.com
